The MYN Ultimate Podcasting Recording Setup - What’s in my studio

I get asked quite a bit what equipment I use to create my shows. It’s not any kind of secret but I decided it was time once and for all to just lay it all out in a post and point where you can find these tools of the trade if you’re looking to upgrade your sound. There’s all kinds of other odds and ends here including a pair of 16 year old JBL 4206 studio monitors that you can’t find anymore but what you see below makes up the main part of my recording rig.

Heil Sound PR-40 Dynamic Studio Recording Microphone Heil Sound PR-40 Dynamic Studio Recording MicrophoneThe Heil Sound PR-40 is a full-range dynamic microphone designed for broadcast and studio applications. The PR-40 is the only dynamic mic with the ability to reproduce frequencies as low as 28Hz. The unique, copper-wound voice coil uses a mixed metallic magnet structure that creates a magnetic field 10 times stronger than most mics. Coupled with a large 1-1/2″, low-mass, quilted aluminum diaphragm, this makes for tremendous low-frequency response and low distortion throughout the PR-40 mic’s wide frequency range. A unique dual pop screen design ensures that breath blasts never hit the diaphragm directly. To top it all off, it also comes with an extremely durable aluminum case for protection on the road.

Heil Sound PL-2T Overhead Broadcast Boom Heil Sound PL-2T Overhead Broadcast BoomThe PL-2T overhead boom uses a system of perfectly balanced internal springs rather than the unsightly, mechanically unstable outboard springs used on booms of much lesser quality. Ships with a standard C-clamp mount. The PL-2 accepts industry standard 5/8″ threaded mic clips or shockmounts. The chrome threaded stem can be locked into place depending upon the exact type of microphone or shockmount.Counterweight included to accommodate lighter microphones.Need to mount the PL-2T permanently to a desk or table?
