I think most of you know by now I’m a huge Kevin Gilbert fan and I really was surprised to see they had the two “official” Toy Matinee videos up on the site. The story I heard was that the record company weasels didn’t want to pay for a music video so Kevin got some friends together, hauled everybody out to the desert outside of Los Angeles and he paid for the whole shoot out of his own pocket.

This is the REAL GNR. I’m not a big GNR fan but I love this song and it still sounds good 20 years later. I had a roommate at Berklee named Brian Larkin who knew about these guys months before the single broke big back in 1987 and his cassette of “Appetite for Destruction” was the first I’d ever heard of these guys and was blown away by it. Brian even went and saw them perform at some tiny club in Boston a few weeks later and got to hang out with them. He had this cool belt made from a Harley drive chain that he gave to Axl that night and if memory serves correctly, we saw Axl wearing it much later in a music video.

Given the impending release of the new Guns N’ Roses Axl Rose solo album, I thought I’d paste in an old real GNR song.
