eMusic passes 200 Million Song Mark
This past week, indie-centric online music store eMusic announced the sale of their 200 Millionth song. What’s remarkable is that they were able to sell the second hundred million in 18 months, half the time it took to sell the first 100 million.
Currently, eMusic claims to be the second largest online seller of legal music downloads in the world, serving up somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 million songs per month. Given that the majority of their catalog is made up of indie labels eMusic is sending a lot of business to musicians grateful for the exposure and sales. I’m a big fan of eMusic. I’ve been a subscriber for over a year and have discovered a lot of great new music that I otherwise would not own if it weren’t for the 75 downloads I get every month for my subscription fee of $24.95.
