I found a Member’s Only Jacket. It was too big and had a hole in the pocket but by gosh I had that jacket until I started college in ‘86. Honestly, you aren’t really missing all that much. :-)

I’m glad to hear that the Police were good. I’m going to see them in July at Fenway. I was wondering who was opening for them. I saw Sting at the Dunk in Providence, RI. Fiction Plane opened for him. I totally forgot about them until I read your post.

July should be a good month. I’m going to see Genesis July 10th. I’m going to see Meatloaf on July 27th. Finally I’ll see the Police in Fenway July 28th.

Actually, yes. August 1 and 3 at MSG. Tix may be pretty hard to find but very worth it IMHO.

Your childhood sounds a bunch like mine. My first show was Rush at Radio City Music Hall. I am taking my 12 year old son to the Police this Tues at Auburn Hills,Detroit. His first concert.

    Cheers
    Jeff

The Philly concert last night — dissappointing. Felt like it was just another day at the office for the band. No heart. I hope the majority of the ticket money goes to their relief aid as they didn’t earn it in my opinion. Best thing was Andy — he kicked it in a bit.

Saw the Police in Philly. You could tell that the band has been on tour for a while as the band was tight. They played like they were on fire. I was my first time seeing the band in concert as I blew it all those years ago. I couldn’t beleive they played Grendle’s Lair when they did their ’station wagon tour’ for their first ever swing through the USA.

Oh man… how amazing would it have been to have seen them at Grendle’s Lair? Capman, sorry you weren’t blown away. Some people have commented to me that they didn’t like some of the newer (softer) and slightly jazzier arrangements of the songs. I think it’s funny how you and Bart’s opinions differ. I’m sure it’s tough for a bunch of 50 year old guys (Andy is 64) to do this kind of young man’s stadium tour and I thought Sting’s voice sounded a bit rough when I saw them on TV a couple weeks ago but it’s not often you get to see the biggest band in the world come back and again be the biggest band in the world.

I totally could have written that review, only changing some dates! I saved up my money to see them in Syracuse, NY February 4, 1984 at 14 years old. I cried when they broke up, and I cried when they announced they were touring!! I saw them last night in Philly and to use your word - they were a-f***ing-mazing! I’m STILL smiling. They were fantastic! I have TWO members only jackets.

Attended the big show in Hartford last night under the full moon and perfect open stadium weather. The Police improve with age and probably the best collective performance I have ever seen of recycled stars. And I might add they all dug being on stage playing together……..No wash-ups here! Sting was right on with every note and riff change. Percussion and lead were equally riveting.’

I AM NOT a big Police fan, but can recognize the best of current musical art when I hear it. This tour is not to be missed of true rock’jazz’fusion music lovers.
Don’t worry if you can’t get a great space close on the floor. The multi media presentation on stage makes it possible to equally enjoy the show from further reaches, where you may be able to actually SIT through the show. The sound from any seat in the joint is worth any penny paid, so save your money for the tickets not yet sold and buy from the B.O on the day of the show and ENJOY.

I saw them at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on June 15. I was in town visiting my Mom (just got in that morning) and had long ago bought tickets for the Roger Waters concert at the MGM Grand the following night. Happened to bump into a guy who was trying to unload a few Police tickets he had paid $287 apiece for. Yes, that was the price of the high-end tickets at that venue. He sold me one for a hundred bucks and OFF I WENT TO THE SHOW! This was only my second Police show and the first since the Ghost in The Machine tour (with opening act A Flock of Seagulls). I thought this reunion show was great, but a little tiresome at times. I liked the fact that there were slight re-arrangements of most of the songs to keep things interesting, but Sting’s “be-yo, be-yo, be-YAY-oh” routine does get a little tiresome after a while. Maybe I was just sleepy. I’d gotten very little sleep the night before (had a very early plane to catch to fly to Vegas that morning) and was ready for bed before the show even ended.
Cool part was meeting some professional poker players on the concourse after the show — this was Vegas and the World Series of Poker was in full swing.

Fiction Plane was a solid and tight band. Excellent musicianship, which compensated for some of their songs being a bit pedestrian. I wish I knew their setlist, though. There was one song in particular (about 2/3 through their set) that was musically and structurally very interesting. Almost “dark” compared to their other tunes. Sting’s son may be the singer, but the guitarist and drummer were FEROCIOUS players and made sure everyone knew this was a BAND, not a showcase for Sting’s son.

I have been a fan since the 80s but never saw them live. Just returned from Virgin Fest in Baltimore where they headlined. Cant sleep because Im still reeling because of how absolutly incredible they were live! WOW!

I have been a fan since the beginning but was always too young to see them. I too have waited for years and years and have tickets to the last UK concert at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. Have seen Sting twice over the years and am really looking forward to the reworked versions. These 3 guys are musical geniuses in their own right. Andy is simply the most incredible guitarist in the world , knowing what he wanted to be from a very young age. (read One Train Later - A fantastic read). They broke up at the right time and have come back at the right time. I cant stop myself checking for reviews of their concerts. Bring it on , bring it on , bring on the night , I feel like I will be walking on the moon on October 19 . I need to see Darkness to stop the voices inside my head telling me not to be so lonely. £100 was peanuts to pay because there is no other way of stopping this feeling of demolition , man , if you cant get the chance to see them then there is no time this time , Mother Oh my god , Bring on the night !!!!!

    Sean,

Well put! Honestly, I still think about this concert maybe once a day. Some people still call me crazy for spending so much for a concert ticket, but I think it’s a pittance for a memory I will have for the rest of my life. The music of the Police changed my musical tastes forever and if it were possible, I’d go see them again in a heartbeat.

November 8th will be my turn to see them again, back to back concert tours, only a couple of decades between shows! This time, i need to get a babysitter! My wife has never seen them, so we are both looking forward to seeing the show (round two through Toronto) I just wish I could have seen them dirong their “PICNIC’ phase. back when they toured with TALKING HEADS and a whack of other great bands. Last time I saw hem, they had Re-Flex open for them, (One-hit wonders with ‘he Politics Of Dancing’) Only a little ofer a month to go…

I never thought this would happen, but dreams do come true. I was there at V-fest, I live 5 miles from Pimlico. The Police blew me away. I have been to a good amount of shows, but that first day of the festival was the best day of music I have EVER seen, herd , or experienced. The Police put me in a trance that I haven’t shaken yet. I went that next week and bought six more tickets for the Philly show……………..in two days. I can’t wait, I feel like a eight year old the day before Christmas.

I have never seen the Police, nor Sting in concert even though both are my favorite band/singer in the world! I bought tickets to see them last year in Dallas, but had to sell them because I had just given birth to my son 5 days prior to the concert and really wasn’t up for it. I was seriously thinking about going though!!! But I sold the tickets in hope that they would come back around…..guess what!!??!! They are and I bought tickets! This time they will be playing outside and I was able to get my general addmission lawn tickets at a fraction of the cost! I am way to excited and can’t wait and get goose bumps just thinking about seeing them live! I know I’ll probably be crying during the concert! I just had to share this with other fans!!!
